Meet the MMS School Counselor:

Hello, Bulldogs! My name is Justin Ruiz, and I am your new School Counselor. I grew up on the Southside of San Antonio (Go, Owls!), and attended Texas Lutheran University following graduation. After college, I worked in the private sector and training others was one of my job responsibilities. It was that experience that led me to pursue a career in teaching. I’ve now been working in education for the last 12 years. I started out as a fifth grade teacher, later becoming a middle school Science teacher and Coach. As both a teacher and coach, I had the opportunity to build great relationships with students–it has always been an honor knowing students have looked to me as a trusted adult they could talk to. For that reason, I felt called to continue to help students off the field as a School Counselor. I graduated from the University of the Southwest with a Masters of Education in Counseling in 2018, and I immediately began working in that capacity. I decided to continue my education and went on to earn a second Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health. Now, in addition to working as a School Counselor, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a private practice of my own. I live in this community, and I am really excited to work with all the students and families of Marion Middle School. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you need any assistance.
