Counseling program: As part of Marion ISD Comprehensive Counseling Program, school counselors are required to meet the needs of students under the following components:

Guidance Curriculum – Classroom lessons address important preventative and developmental topics, including kindness, conflict resolution, bullying, academic skills, personal safety, among others.  Topics are determined by needs assessment data and teacher input and meet both state and national standards.

Individual Planning- I am available to meet students individually to work on a goal to be more productive in class.

Consultation with parents and teachers is a critical part of the school counselor’s role in advocating for students and helping them succeed.  School counselors help locate community resources for parents in search of information or services to help their child at home.

Responsive Service- Students, teachers, parents, administrators may refer students to work with me. Many social and emotional skills are visited during individual or small group counseling sessions. Topics can vary but some of the more common topics are conflict mediation, friendships, lack of motivation, social skills and regulating their feelings.

Systems Support – This allows me to work with teachers and parents as I play the role of an advocate for the child. It is very important for your child to feel comfortable in class so they are ready to learn. I can also offer outside resources to help your child’s social and emotional well being.

School Supplies/Clothing:

Our school also helps provide school supplies for students in need.  From pencils to backpacks, we have a variety of supplies.  If you are in need of support please contact Mrs. Venslauskas:  svenslauskas@marionisd.net

8 Keys of ExcellencePrinciple:
IntegrityDo the right thing even when adults aren’t looking. Demonstrate your positive personal values in all you do and say
Failure Leads To SuccessYou’re not always going to get things right the first time and that is OK.
Speak with Good PurposeWords are powerful. Think before you speak. If you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it. We use our words in a way that helps rather than hurts people.
This is it!Use your time wisely. Make the most of every moment.
CommitmentPut forth good effort. Don’t give up. Make your dreams happen!
OwnershipAlways tell the truth. Take responsibility for your actions.
FlexibilityYou don’t always get what you want. Go with the flow. Be willing to do things differently.
BalanceHave a growing brain, strong body, and happy heart. Live your best life!

Students will have the opportunity to eat with me during the school year. Lunch bunch meetings could be scheduled for various reasons, such as acclimating new students, helping to make friends, talk out a situation with peers, or as a reward.  The groups will be limited to 3 students per lunch period.

Individual counseling is offered on a short-term basis for a variety of student concerns that may be affecting students academically.  Students may see me for a variety of reasons including:

  • grades
  • conflict with friends
  • test anxiety
  • peer relationships
  • lack of motivation
  • bullying
  • conflict resolution
  • loss of a loved one or pet
  • changes in the family
  • study skills
  • stress

Small groups provide additional learning experiences, giving children the opportunity to build relationships, practice new skills, and learn through the support of group members.  Small group topics vary widely and are determined by data and current need.
