At the heart of all the new construction in the 2019 Bond for the Krueger Campus, the plans were centered around giving new life to the Old Gym structure as a renovated Cafetorium with stage and Music Classroom. The plans were to re-use the existing concrete foundation and steel structure. As you can see, we have already removed the exterior tin, salvaged the wood floors to be re-used around the stage, and have exposed the steel structure for the first time since it was built over 60 years ago. Unfortunately, we have discovered that the concrete foundation is not in a condition that it can safely be reused and needs to be replaced. This means that the steel structure will need to be disassembled in order to pour the new concrete foundation. However, even though the original steel is coming down, it will be put back up again and still incorporated into the new design as planned. The original steel trusses will be visible from the interior of the new Cafetorium and the beloved Old Gym will be made better and stronger than ever. This work will begin on Monday, July 29th.
