In light of the wonderful rain we have received this week and the impending additional rain we are supposed to receive over the next few days, we thought it would be a good time to remind everyone about our bad weather procedures. If we have a weather situation that makes it dangerous for traveling such as excessive rain, icy or snowy conditions, or extreme wind, we will take action. Generally bad weather conditions require either a late start or an early release, but sometimes school closure for an entire day is the best option. If any of these are necessary, a School Messenger notification will be sent out via email, text, and phone message to alert parents and guardians. The message will indicate the start time, release time, or the date to return to assist with plans. When weather conditions develop during the overnight hours or over extended periods of time, the local television stations – KENS 5, KMOL 4, AND KSAT 12 – will be notified as well as the local radio station – KWED 1580am. We will also post announcements on our District Website at www.marionisd.net and our District Facebook and Twitter sites. Please know that I will always ere on the side of caution when it comes to making these decisions. Weather is extremely unpredictable and road conditions can change in a flash. Local law enforcement, emergency agencies, and weather authorities are utilized to provide information to help guide these decisions. Your patience and understanding is always appreciated. And also note that we access a weather app program for all of our outdoor activities. Lightening is monitored and per UIL regulations, any strikes within a 10 mile radius result in events being delayed with all participants and spectators receiving directions to take cover for at least 30 minutes after the last strike is detected within that specified radius. Administration monitors the situation and will make the determination if the activity will resume or be postponed. These decisions will be made based solely on the safety of all involved.
